![]() We tried the raspberry & rhubarb preserve and that was a bit on the runny side. The Snake River sharp cheddar was great with crackers. We were excited for the cheese curds to make poutine, but the cheese curds were a bit more chewy than expected (more like a mozzarella cheese). For those with a sensitive sense of smell, this might be a tough tour to stomach, but if you cut off any smelling and think of the positives from the learning, it's a great experience.Īt the end, we purchased a handful of goods from the store. Our guide walked us through the different areas of the barn explaining the machinery, birthing area, tracking system to keep the cows healthy. It was amazing that the cows were trained to go into the automated milking machines whenever they were ready (nothing forced!) and high tech capabilities allowed for the milking units to attach for milk extraction. From there, we were shown the barn where cows had comfort mats to rest on and an automated milking machine that operates 24/7 to accommodate the cows whenever they are ready to be milked. Everyone had an opportunity to pet and provide some love to calves that had just been weened from their moms. Under normal circumstances, this would have been super fun, but we were a little concerned with so many unmasked visitors and COVID (we wore our masks the entire time). Our tour guide hauled all of us from the store to the dairy farm on a hay wagon hitched to a tractor. There is only one tour daily at 11:00am and quite a number of families showed up for the tour. Having lived in an urban environment our entire lives, seeing where milk comes from is something that you only get on TV. Overall, it was great to try local cheese and preserves and support the local industry. The dairy farm tour gave me and my family a greater appreciation for the hard work that cows and dairy farm owners go through to produce so many dairy products that we enjoy. ![]() At the end, we purchased a handful of goods from the store.
